Lisa Potter-Dixon nailing the bike leg!

Set against the backdrop of the majestic Woburn Abbey, team #ELLEFit joined over 3,000 others to take part in the Tri For Life on September 6th. We raised over £2,000 for our chosen charity – the awe-inspiring Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity – to help them continue their amazing work with seriously ill children in the UK. The event itself rose close to £300,000, which will be split across the partner charities – the Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity and Great Ormond’s Street Children’s Hospital.

The Tri for Life was born in 2007, and in just eight years has raised over £1.8m for a variety of brilliant and worthy charities. The event was brainchild of the late Harvey Selby (he tragically died from cancer a year later), who made it his mission to encourage others to get fit whilst raising money. His memory lives on through “The Harvey Selby Charitable Trust”.

The day holds many memories, both for those who took part, and the children whose lives everyone’s efforts will touch. Here are some of our fondest memories:

Lorraine Candy: My highlight was the giant pizzas afterwards, and my lowlight was forgetting to put sun tan lotion on ending up with a tri-suit tan across my back. Most peculiar.

Victoria White: Realising that I was two thirds of the way through the cycle and only had to do the huge hill one more time!

Aimee Nisbet: The highlight for me was the herd of 30 deer that stampeded across the road about 50 meters ahead of me as I whizzed down the hill into transition. Beautiful and memorable.

Lisa Potter-Dixon: Feeling like I was swimming through an underwater jungle was interesting. People were coming out of the lakes with what looked like green wigs due to the amount of weeds. All in all a brilliant experience, I loved the team spirit. When's the next one, sign me up!

Annie Rice: I overtook a guy who looked like a serious biker on a hill on the bike course which was quite epic.

The Tri for Life 2016 will take place on September 10th & 11th. For more information, click here.
