ELLE takes five minutes to chat with founder of Fat Buddha Yoga and DJ Jessica Skye about her fave yoga poses, music and foods are.

How long have you been teaching yoga?

Although it feels like I’ve been teaching forever in actual fact it’s been a couple of years… It will be Fat Buddha Yoga’s 2nd birthday in May this year.

What is Fat Buddha Yoga?

It’s what I tag as ‘a modern approach to the ancient art and science of yoga for the next generation of urban yogis’.

The core emphasis is making yoga accessible and fun – the venues change seasonally (from sunny rooftops to nightclub basements and 5* hotels) there’s always a huge emphasis on ambience – cool lighting, good vibes and BIG tunes. There’s a great mixture of people and lots of good vibes but nothing too hippy dippy. I try to keep the price point friendly too as yoga can be crazy expensive to keep up regularly.

FBY isn’t about taking yoga too seriously, instead use it as a tool to look after your mind and body whilst keeping some balance in our busy lifestyles. Whether it’s giving yourself some downtime on the mat after work, mixing up your workouts to compliment each other or coming to sweat out the weekend.

Favourite chill out music?

I love lots of chilled house and nu-disco  - you can find all my favs here: soundcloud.com/fatbuddhamusic - I tailor make all the mixes to match the rhythm of the classes.

Cheat meal?

I’m a brunch fanatic – My favorite naughty, but nice, meal is French toast (preferably brioche) with poached eggs, crispy bacon, crushed avocado and drizzled in maple syrup.

Fave yoga pose, and why?

Handstands… In fact anything that involves going upside down. Inversions have loads of health benefits – but I mostly like them because they’re awesome fun.

Yoga essential?

I’ve got three: Good tunes, freshly pedicured feet and a supportive sports bra that still allows you to move.

Best beauty buy?

Smashbox photofinish luminizing primer – it’s oil free so not clogging, I use it over my moisturiser and only use concealer on top. It keeps me looking fresh and helps to disguise the fact I’ve had minimal sleep in between DJ gigs and teaching yoga.

Your life mantra?

“When in doubt leave it out” – Instincts are usually right so listen to them… You’ll be happier for it too.

Perfect time of day?

Twilight or sunset…. I love it when there’s hues of color in the sky. I see the sun come up a lot with early classes and love it, I’m also a total sucker for a sunset.

Ideal place to escape to?

I instantly want to say Ibiza – (for the beautiful beaches… and music). That said I’m dying to get to the Maldives before they disappear.

Signature scent?

Anything sweet, soft and floral… I normally wear Lancome - La Vie Est Belle or Narciso Rodriguez - For Her.

ELLE has enlisted Jessica Skye, founder of Fat Buddha Yoga, to run our yoga sessions at the Shangri-La Hotel, Shard later this month. If you didn’t manage to get tickets to the event, you can train with Jessica via her Fat Buddha Yoga classes. She runs four types of class:

Yoga Virgins – The clue is in the title.

Release - A class designed to help you unwind and compliments other intense training such as running, HIIT etc. It balances the body, so also great if you’ve been hunching over a desk all week. You’ll work up some sweat, stretch everything out and leave feeling zen.

Fire - A more intense class, great cardio with core work, as well as breaking down and learning some of the more tricky poses.

The Rehab – A Sunday session to unwind and detox ready for Monday. It’s a dynamic flow (but not crazy intense) you’ll stretch, sweat and ring out your organs with twists then hit the steam rooms after (an FBY favorite).
