The concept: First there was ashtanga flow yoga, then Bikram yoga (which the people behind Fierce Grace brought to the UK in 1994) and now comes Fierce Grace to combine the best of the two. Dont worry if the words ashtanga and Bikram mean nothing to you, though this friendly new way to get bendy is equally good for beginners as seasoned yogi masters. Practised in a room heated to 35?C (5?C cooler than Bikram, but still more than enough to get you in a sweat), Fierce Grace mixes dynamic sun salutations and balances with deep stretching poses to burn calories, build strength AND boost flexibilty. Win, win, win, then.
What you need: Comfy, form-fitting gym gear (but be warned: wear full trousers in this heat at your peril), a big ol bottle of water and an open mind. Mats are provided, but youll need to bring or rent a towel to lay on top.
Difficulty rating: Tough. If youre not used to hot yoga, the sauna-like conditions can be a shock, and some of the poses are challenging balance on one leg while looking over your other shoulder, anyone? but youll love how quickly youll see results, and youll come out feeling uplifted and energised (if very soggy).
Location: Studios in City, Kentish Town, Queens Park, Primrose Hill and East Finchley, London.
Cost: £12-15 per class
