We'll be honest, this isn't exactly a new trick - it's been doing the rounds for a while now, but the latest batch has taken things up a notch, with the most intricately precise patterns and shapes that are more hair art than anything else.

Just take New York hair stylist and creator of every Pinterest-worthy 'do ever Allen Thomas Wood who singlehandedly blew our minds with his spray on rainbow hair bands:

Want to give it a go? The good thing is that you don't need to be the next Picasso to get it right.

It's simply a case of resting a stencil against your hair and applying a coloured hair spray over the top to leave behind your chosen pattern.

We'd imagine things get messy pretty quickly, so maybe give this one a go in the shower so if (ok, when) you paint outside the lines, you can easily wash any mess down the plughole. Genius.
