Traveling is sooo great, except for the part where you have to sit in a cold, cramped, airless plane for several hours. Not only does a long flight test your patience as a member of the human race, but it also wreaks havoc on your skin. In an attempt to remedy the devastating effects a flight has on your skin (we have no solution for that guy next to you who fell asleep with his food still on his tray and unleashed his stinky feet as soon as he boarded), here is some sound advice from celebrity makeup artists, aestheticians and skin care experts who happen to fly a lot.

MYLAH MORALES, CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST (RIHANNA)

'I am the queen of post-flight skin care. I cleanse my skin with Koh Gen Do Cleansing Cream followed with makeup wipes I usually buy from these little Korean beauty stores. I follow up with aserum from Erno Laszlo and the heaviestErno Laszlo moisturizer. I spritz and spritz with Caudalie Beauty Elixir orEvian Facial Spray. There are some flights, the ones to Europe, where I spritz the entire flight to stay hydrated.'

FIONA STILES, CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST (ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY, GABRIELLE UNION)

'I try to take care of my skin during and post-flight so that I can negate the drying effects of flying as much as possible. During flights, I pile on my favorite moisturizer, which is the Rose Geranium Face Moisturizer from Holly Beth Organics. It's like a semi-solid face oil and it sinks into the skin so beautifully. I'll press this into my skin every 30 to 60 minutes while I fly just to make sure my skin stays hydrated.

'When I get to my hotel, I'll wash my face with the Liz Earl Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. I love the muslin cloths that come with this; they exfoliate the skin beautifully and I always feel like I need a solid scrubbing after getting off a flight. Then I'll press more of the Holly Beth into my skin and let it really soak in for a while. If I feel really tired, I'll pop on someElemis Eye Patches to make my eyes feel more rested. Or if I have time I'll take a bath and use some Gem Honey Bath Salts. They come in little packets so they're easy to travel with, and the Epsom salts and essential oils in them really recharge me. Then a bit of Weleda Skin Food on the body (the rest of the body dries out too!) and I feel good as new.'

JOANNA VARGAS, AESTHETICIAN (KEIRA KNIGHTLY, EMMA STONE, JULIANNE MOORE)

'After a flight, it's a good idea to exfoliate even overnight once you are settled into your hotel. Exfoliation allows your products to penetrate better and will leave the skin completely resurfaced. Traveling with an oil-based serum is a must because oils restore the skin's lipid layer quickly. I usually travel with my sheet masks andeye masks so I can mask mid-flight. Nothing keeps moisture in the skin better.

'Traveling with a face mist or essence is perfect because it puts moisture into the skin without clogging the pores. One of my favorite toners is the Sweet Red Rose Tonique by Eminence Organics. Rose petals are soothing and nourishing to the skin, so you can also create your own DIY version of a rose water toner. I love thisnatural green tea essence from Peach & Lily. It's super hydrating, brightening, and filled with antioxidants from the green tea.'

KRISTINA HOLEY, HOLISTIC SKINCARE SPECIALIST

'What happens on the plane is that there is a very severe hydration gradient, aka dry/arid air that pulls the hydration out of the tissues of the skin. Because of the dehydration that occurs systemically there is often inflammation as a result and increased stress in the body. Many people exfoliate after the flight, which is illogical. What we should be doing is applying products to help the skin back into optimum conditions: strengthen the barrier layer, balance the pH levels, reduce inflammation, and apply ingredients to restore hydration.

'Whatever you do, don't strip away your skin post-flight as that can increase stress/sensitization. I like to use a goodhydrating spray/toner, serums, some balanced omega-rich oils, then a thick protective cream. This MBR gel is wonderful to restore moisture and apply post-flight. You could reapply your serum, oils, and cream as well. Do this after an Epsom salt soak.'

SIR JOHN, L'ORÉAL PARIS CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST (BEYONCÉ)

'There are two different skin concerns when you get off a flight–there are the people that are super dehydrated/flaky or ones who are super, super oily. I tend to be one of those that come off the plane super oily. To combat this, I first go for the warm towelettes that some airlines pass around. This warm water helps cut through some of the oil. I also love to use a little Revitalift Volume Filler Eye Treatment. This has caffeine in it and helps get rid of the eye puffiness that you experience.

'For those that are oily, I would not recommend putting on moisturizer or anything else on your face, other than a spritz or two of water. For those that experience dehydrated, dry skin after a flight, it is important to replace the lost moisture. Definitely go for something likeRevitalift Volume Filler Daily Re-Volumizing Concentrated Serum. This serum contains ultra-concentrated hyaluronic acid and is a must-have in your carry on. The hyaluronic acid helps improve your skin's fullness and is a great makeup prep as well.'

CHARLOTTE CHO, AESTHETICIAN AND FOUNDER OF SOKOGLAM

'I travel back and forth to Korea a few times a year, so it's important that I keep my skin hydrated after the long flight. Post-flight I like to thoroughly remove my makeup using cleansing wipes and then reset my skin with the RE:P Organic Cotton Treatment Toning Pads. They help me quickly tone and exfoliate in one go and are presoaked, so they are travel friendly. Then I apply a sheet mask and a sleeping pack. The Missha Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Mask is the superhero of repairing, regenerating, and replenishing moisture, and it's travel friendly (only 110 ml)! The sleeping pack I recommend is theRE:P Ultra All-Night Moisture & Relief Mask. It's a luxe formula that hydrates and protects my skin while it repairs itself throughout the night. RE:P is also cruelty free, which is a major plus!'
