We caught up with former ELLE cover star Lily Allen to chat all things beauty, style and feminism at the launch of her new bespoke nail design collection, Lily Loves styled by Elegant Touch.

What is your first make-up memory?

I was on a flight to Ibiza with my mum and sister and they were looking at the in-flight magazine at the duty free stuff. Then they started up a conversation about their top 10 beauty classics. They said [Elizabeth Arden] Eight Hour cream, [YSL] Touché Eclat, spice lipstick and twig lip pencil by Mac. I don’t think they do twig anymore! I remember sitting in the row behind them thinking, ‘what are they going on about?’ I would have been nine or 10 and I idolised my sister. All I wanted was spice and twig in my Christmas stocking.

What is the one skincare product you couldn’t live without?

I can’t have just one. The top products are my Clarisonic cleanser and my CE Ferulic by SkinCeuticals.

What’s the best tip you’ve ever had from a make-up artist?

Concealer directly under the eyes makes you look a bit mad. A make-up artist told me emulate the Chanel logo with a light concealer and to blend it in all the way round. It really works!

How would you describe your style in three words?

Teenage girl? No, I’d say fun, experimental and LOLcore.

What is the best nail art you’ve ever had?

I had one by Clara H Nails, you can find her on my Instagram. It had My Little Pony and then ‘sorry you’re basic’ written really tiny on the tips. That was really epic. The other was from Naomi Nails. When I was in America she cut out bits of actual dollars and worked them into the acrylic. She cut out the letters S-A-M for Sam on one nail. It was really amazing. She’s a very talented lady.

What does feminism mean to you?

Just being treated in the same way that men are.
