Couture SS13: Best in Beauty

From bejewelled lips at Dior to stipes of neon green at Versace, they might not be your everyday staples but we can’t help but love the make-up at the couture shows.

Although copious amounts of bravery would be required to recreate make-up masterpieces, there’s plenty of inspiration to whet your Spring/Summer make-up appetite. We’ve picked out our favourites, tweet us yours @ELLEBeautyTeam.

Pat McGrath has actually made me drool with delight at the beauty of this super-smoke at Versace. The neon green shock lifts an otherwise ordinary (albeit very elegant) dusky smoke to show stopping proportions. A rare couture treat that I can plan to wear myself. I'm already scheduling in some solid practice time.

The orange eyeshadow at Galante may seem like a brave choice, but actually it’s a shade that suits so many. On dark skins wear it unashamedly bold. Tanned or olive complexion? Work it into a bronze smoky eye. Porcelain? A sheer wash of fruity peach can be both pretty and cool. Make like the models at Galante and keep the rest of your make-up paired back.

I’ve fallen head-over-heels for this look. Partnering subtle smoky copper on the lids with a splash of aqua-green on the waterline and upper-lash line, makes this a different yet surprisingly wearable look. The make-up avoids looking too overdone as colourful eyes are paired with effortlessly bare skin and clear, glossy lips.

The insanely wide-brimmed hat may not be a look we can all pull off, but the graphic liner definitely is. Against a nude, natural base with soft peachy cheeks and a pink lip, the harsh black eyes pack a punch. For looks like this, I swear by felt-tip-esque liners, such as Hourglass’ Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner in Ebony, £23.

Couture doesn’t have to be wearable, in fact the more outrageously beautiful the better! Dior’s jewelled lips are not exactly a look you can rock at the office, however for a special occasion try layering a shimmering red glitter over a classic red lipstick to make it anything but.
