Primers work wonders for brightening the skin. They’ll also help your look last longer. Petra Strand, founder and creative director of Pixi says, ‘I always work towards perfecting the base. Pixi’s Brightening Primer contains pure pearl powder to give a soft holographic glow that diffuses the light and brightens the complexion; pearl is a powerful amino acid that has been used for centuries in the Far East as it strengthens and soothes the skin. Vitamin E acts as a natural protectant.’

A great way to avoid looking overly made up is to swap foundation for tinted moisturiser.
‘I would always suggest applying an illuminating tinted moisturiser to achieve this season’s dewy glow. It is a lighter alternative to a foundation, brightens dull skin when it’s dry and helps to regain moisture levels.’ says Laura Mercier.
Bucking the current global trend for all things natural and fuss free, one of this season’s newest make-up looks is taking the business of beauty back to basics. The ‘un-made-up’ make up look combines dewy flawless skin with neutral colours and is big news for 2009. It is also one of the hardest make-up looks to get right, as very few of us are blessed with naturally flawless skin and often getting the simplest things just right can be deceivingly tricky.
As make-up artist Daniel Sandler explains, ‘dewy skin should look slightly shiny and reflective, like you have had a face scrub but not greasy, sweaty or overly shimmery.’
If you have fairly clear skin, learning the tricks to conceal and highlight effectively (and subtly) may be all you need to know. While for those of you with regular break-outs, dry patches or combination skin, perfecting your canvas before you begin will help you achieve the healthy made-up glow.
