It’s jelly time: the new trend in make-up

Jelly-like textures are already big beauty news in Asia and they're starting to make an impact on British skincare and cosmetics too. ELLE reveals the new products to want…

This product is already a hit in Japan – it’s the number one premium skincare product over there. Thanks to its lightweight, melting, jelly texture and ultra fine particles, the product penetrates the skin's layers deep down. Essie Nail Polish in Cherry Pop, £9.95 at Nails by Mail

Forget opaque polish, a clutch of nail brands including Bourjois, Revlon and Nails Inc are launching sheer, juicy shades this summer so it’s a micro trend worth taking note of. My favourite is Essie Cherry Pop, £9.95 (pictured).  We’re so used to solid, punchy shades, but this sheer polish is so much more delicate and pretty.

Clarins Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balm, £16.50 (available 28 May)

Building on the success of last summer’s Crystal Lip Balm, this year’s edition combines the sheer jelly-looking balm with a new central slither of lipstick which gives you the comfort of a balm with a punchy kick of colour. The bullet is also home to Clarins’ Instant Smooth technology with Pro-ceramides that minimise the look of fine lines and wrinkles for plumper-looking lips. It comes in three shades – Violet, Coral and Rose and is set to be a sell out.  

Ole Henriksen All Purpose Aloe Vera Gel, £36 at Beauty Bay

Reminiscent of Flubber (one of our favourite 90s films) this bright green gel is a summer saviour for skin. The super cooling and soothing aloe vera works wonders on everything from shaving and waxing rash to sunburn. A bathroom cabinet essential, stock up now. 

By Terry Aqualip Jelly Tint, £22 at Space NK

This orange jelly lip tint looks neon orange in the tube, but on the lips it melts away leaving a pink tint that creator Terry de Gunzburg claims is somewhere between a ‘temporary tattoo’ and a ‘colour infusion’. The no-texture tint gives you a bright pink pout without the need for reapplication, and with a shot of glycerine the tint is moisturising without being sticky. Clever.
