For years we’ve been applying blusher to the apples of the cheeks to cheat a natural rosy flush , but this autumn blusher has edge. Use shades of bronze, beige, caramel and oyster to enhance bone structure by blending powder under cheek bones, out and up to the temples. Cream textures also work well.

This season, skin is still flawless and fresh but it has a more classic, sophisticated edge - it’s no wonder powder has made a comeback. As well as investing in a great basic compact, experiment with the new powders that brighten and illuminate. Pale, winter skin doesn’t have to mean sallow or dull, so think of these illuminators as your new winter bronzer.

Nod to the 1980s
by sweeping your eye shadow out and up instead of using a wing of liquid liner
. You’ll still get that flattering, feline effect but the shadow creates a soft graphic
feel that’s very now. Smudge the shadow under the lower lash line for a sexier vibe and layer with black gloss.

Whether you like a lipstick, gloss, pencil or all three, the only shades you’re going to need this autumn are nude and red. Red lips enhance every blotch and blemish so always set them against a flawless base (unless you’re going for a casual stain, in which case well moisturised skin and a little concealer are all you need). The right nude for now is a pink-toned one, and all the more flattering for it. The hint of natural colour will mean you don’t look washed out.
