Brown replaces black as the tone of choice for sultry, smoky eyes this autumn/winter. Perfect for a brighter, lighter, more summery mood, brown is the less intense and softer cousin of our favourite evening-eyes hue. At Julien Macdonald chestnut circled eyes offset a beautifully subtle hit of peach on cheeks, while at Erdem soft mink looked weathered and worn in - a modern substitute for black according to make-up artist Andrew Gallimore. Tea stained eyes at Pringle and toffee shades at Anna Sui and DKNY continued the trend for soft, sheer browns but at Alexander Wang a greasy texture and red-tinged ochre added a tougher edge. For a vamped up evening look, be inspired by Roberto Cavalli where make-up artist Pat McGrath blended myriad deep chocolate shades around eyes and teamed it with lash defining black mascara.
