Contrary to belief, going nude is the safest way to play it this season. Because if you’re not feeling brave enough to try spring / summer’s heavy smoky eyes or acid bright lip colour, nude is the preferable option.
Beige was used to add tonal effect to sandy, wind-blown faces at Todd Lynn where make-up artist Lisa Eldridge pressed muted, matte pigment into models’ lips until they all but disappeared into skin. At Matthew Williamson 90s minimalism meant faces and lips were washed in flesh tones, while lips at Jaeger had an altogether more polished application of caramel colour. At Hussein Chalayan make-up artist Pat McGrath demonstrated neutral lips at their best by building layers of liner and lipstick on top of each other. Paired with glamorous false lashes and a slick of black liner they looked effortlessly chic and womanly.
