It's glowing, but not as you know it.

Glossy skin. High-lit skin, wet-strobed skin, reverse-contoured skin, call it what you will, the sheen is in and it's possibly the strongest skin trend we've ever seen. There was a final culmination to the glossy skin that swept SS17, and we think it will change the way you do your makeup forever. Roland Mouret, viaVal Garland, we salute you.

Roland said to Val 'I want my girls to have a New Orleans look - like she's rushed home from work to put her dress on so she's a little bit glowy.'

So makeup artist Val Garland created the perfect storm backstage at Mouret and called the look out for what it was; 'It's the makeup you've been seeing all month (correct, Val), but I think it's the version that happens in the real world'.

In her makeup artistry voice, Val described it as 'hologrammed filters of colour.' In real terms she called it 'basically the beauty you will all be doing'

She's right on all counts. We saw models strolling around backstage looking like naturally beautiful girls, as opposed to ethereal, untouchable or sometimes just plain weird. The best bit: Val told us how you do it.

'Really it's all about skin definition using powders and a curved mac brush - no.164.- It's great for putting the makeup exactly where you need it, idiot proof.'

The tonal MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish powders are coming soon and will be the most important addition to your makeup routine this year. Think the skin-gloss effect in a dry powder. Excited?

'Use the lilac tone called Soft Frost – it's like a hologram colour – on the bridge of nose and high on the cheekbone, then come down into a sort of sun kissed bronzy with a pinker tone, called Double Gleam.'

Some of the show look is for catwalk purposes only of course, but you can do a real-life version.

'I wanted the eyebrows to look really shiny. We put MAC Lipglass in the brows. It does keep them up. It's purely a catwalk thing but it photographs really well.' Skip this bit and use a clear brow gel to brush brows up.

'On the eyes, it's kind of gloopy but it has a holographic 2D thing. We used Stormy Pearl Crystal Glass' We can confirm that this is the most user-friendly eye gloss we've found, but if you want to keep the whole look dry you can substitute it for some more of the extra dimension powder.

'Keeping the shine-effect dry is what is so nice about it, because you can do it in the real world. It's all very well patting gloss or balm on our skin but when the wind blows your hair in your face, you'll have greasy ends.'

Finish with MAC clear Lipglass on the lips so the real colour of your skin shows through.

The higher beauty powers have spoken, dry skin glossing is the way forward. 'it's absolutely the best thing for real women.'

And my goodness it looks amazing too. Get ahead of the curve, you will be seeing this EVERYWHERE.
