ICYMI glitter may look pretty, but it's pretty darn bad for the environment and that makes us (and Leo Dicaprio) very, very sad.

We might have grown fond of the multicoloured plastic flecks being Vaselined to every inch of our body, making us feel 1000% sassy (and a little bit basic) in the process, but don't worry, we're not going to leave you in a sad glitterless world.

There's already a new alternative on the block, and we promise it's equally as dreamy.

Prepare yourselves: you can now make your face sparkle through the sophisticated embellishment of pearls. Some would describe this as opulent. Simply put, it's classy AF.

First showcased at the Gucci Cruise 18 show back in July, pearls adorned models' faces in numerous ways: from understated hair beads, to bling 3D eyebrows and full-on dazzling headgear.

Because who needs hair when you can have pearls, right?

Obviously, it looked magical (and relatively medieval...) so it was only a matter of time before Instagram started experimenting with the new shimmering material.

And guess what? Good news! Anything glitter can do, pearls can do better.

Who needs painful face piercings when you can cover yourself in pearls instead? So luxe.

You can even make your winged eyeliner 3D by sprinkling on some dainty and chic jewels. Or replace your highlighter and bring an OTT amount of light to the inner corner of your eye with a subtle but oh so effective pearl.

Feeling things are a bit obvious for your très chic minimal aesthetic? Go for a hidden pearl mani courtesy of pro nail artist Madeline Poole. Nude and understated from the top, a pearl party on the bottom.

Finally, if you're really feeling brave you can dress up your brows, a la Gucci (or Guccy). Use them as hair beads or, if you want to reach real fancy-pants perfection, just cover your entire face. Casual.

Pearl make-up is sure to make you feel like a IRL Princess, rather than a hot unicorn mess. Sorry glitter, your time is up.
