Let's talk about flecks, baby—especially the glitter kind.

Wednesday in Paris, Pat McGrath debuted a holograph lip at Margiela that looked like it came from another dimension. She did it with painted patches of microfine glitter in Aladdin colours like violet, gold, and indigo, blended into a shimmering slick on model Alyssa Traoré.

Like most of McGrath's beauty blasts, this one set the internet on fire, stoked by the frenzy for her in-demand products. Sephora has one of McGrath's genius lip packs in-stock, and it's well worth the investment for every beauty tribe. But until / unless McGrath releases a holograph Lip Lust, some DIY experimentation might be in order.

Our pick for the shimmer: Wild Glitter. It's certified biodegradable, made with plant-based fibers, and breaks down in soil or seawater in 90 days. (That's a far better option than plastic-based glitters, which can hurt small animals like fish and birds, and may contribute to climate change.

First, trace and fill in lips with a deep matte pigment in dark purple or indigo. (You can even use a new eye pencil if you like the color.) Next, brush drops of McGrath's vinyl gloss across the entire mouth. With a small brush, apply several colors of the microfine glitter in small patches over lips, making sure the brightest colors, like silver or gold, go in the middle. (Are we contouring with glitter? Yeah, pretty much.)
