Braids are going nowhere next year, but they are being reinvented as we incorporate them into other styles. The braided top knot is fairly simple, works on medium to long hair, and helps to conceal if it's been a little while since your last shampoo. Score! To keep it modern, think less ballerina-bride and more edgy-mermaid.

It might seem strange, but charcoal is being feted as the wonder beauty product for, well, almost anything. It works like a little magnet for toxins, attaching itself to dirt and oil so they are washed away rather than absorbed by your skin. Use to clean and detoxify skin, minimise pores, reduce bloating and to whiten teeth. Blimey, what an overachiever!

To cheat your way to the signature Kardashian look, you need cut crease eye make-up.  In essence, it involves adding dark shadow to the crease of your eye and lighter shades either side. It has an optical illusion effect, making your eyes seem bigger. There are numerous DIY ways of achieving the look floating round the internet, involving sellotape and plastic spoons. Get crafting!

If you prefer a simpler look/apply your make-up on the bus like me, don't panic! Multi-purpose products are trending for 2017. A stain can be used for lips and cheeks, meaning you can whittle down your beauty bag to the bare minimum. We love the Becca Beach Tint, £20 from Space NK.

Microblading

It might sound like something your 14 year old nephew would do down the park, but microblading is actually a way of getting the Cara Delevingne brows you've always craved. It's essentially cosmetic tattooing, but with very fine amounts of pigment for a highly natural look.

Another one for the girls with less time: scarves and wraps are firmly back in. Cover your bad hair day with a chic wrap and no one will be any the wiser. You're welcome!

It contains Vitamin A and C which stimulate collagen production and has antioxidants which the oil helps to penetrate deep within the epidermis. Rosehip oil also helps reduce scarring and age spots, and is a great moisturiser for blemish prone skin. Trilogy's rosehip oil is £19.50 for 20ml, from Look Fantastic.

Balayage is going nowhere, but to update the look we recommend ashier tones. It transforms brassier hair into a sleek and modern finish. This look requires a lot of bleaching, so best to get it done at the hairdressers and to follow up with a nourishing treatment plan.
