Day 1 of Milan got a delayed start thanks to an electrical fault on the 9.20am plane. I finally took off with make-up artists Val Garland, Hannah Murray and about 101 fashion editors.

I missed: Gucci! The one everyone is talking about! I was still in the sky for the call time, so I shopped it instead here at Heathrow Terminal 5.

I needed: Aromatherapy Associates Support Breathe Essence to ease the airport angst. I hate being late. And missing Gucci.

Hair look of the day: Guido's romantic 'baggy' ponytail at Alberta Ferretti. Extensions were used to remove ALL layers - including any bangs.

I ate: Intriguing canapes on gold trays at Alberta Ferretti. Backstage catering is very different in Milan.

And so are backstage entrances... Pretty grand, even with the burly bodyguards.

I learnt: From MAC nail maestro Keri Blair that mixing top coat together with a polish makes for a plasticky gloss finish - the desired effect for Alberta Ferreti's doll-like nails.

Ciao for now until Day 2
