So Now You Should Sleep In Make up?

The World According To Kim

Kim Kardashian has a British idol, but it's not for a reason you might expect.

First, the who. It's Charlotte Tilbury, globally reknowned make up artist, friend of ELLE, maker of the most incredible range of beauty products, backstage guru, womans woman. But it is for none of these reasons that Kim loves Charlotte.

'I first fell in love with her when she confessed that her husband has never seen her, ever, without make-up on, so she sleeps with make-up every single night,'

Yep. It is becasue she has never let her husband see her without her face on. Nope. Never.

We've all been there, those early days into a relationship when you sneak out of bed early to do some 'no makeup makeup' and sneak back in to dazzle them with your immaculate 'I woke up like this' face. But your husband?

'The first time I met Charlotte, she told me the funniest story about how her husband walked in on her in the bathroom and she didn’t have her make-up on and she slammed the door, screaming. She’s my idol!'

Clearly this is something that resonates with Kim, some sound advice for someone who needs to be camera ready at all times. Except, well, it's not. We all know sleeping in makeup is bad for yor skin. And yes,  of course Charlotte also knows this. That's why she routinely removes her makeup every night, cleans her face like we all should, and then reapplies it all for bed.

Madness? Genius? Lets look at the pros and cons.

PROs

The 'lived in' look is very Spring/Summer 2016

Your other half need never know the true length or colour of your eyelashes

Concealer can do its physically-concealing-whilst-mentally-calming job at night as well as in the daytime

Brands can sell their 24 hour longwear promises - why else would anyone need their makeup to last that long?

CONs

You're perpetuating a viscious cycle by blocking your pores which can enlargen them and cause spots, which is mostly why you're wearing make up in the first place

Since your skin renews itself overnight, you don't want residual dirt and makeup interfering with the healing process.

Your other half might want to know the true length and colour of your eyelashes. They usually do (at the very least so they don't get a shock a few years down the line).

If you're really adamant that Midnight Makeup is something you need to aspire to, as always, I'm here to help. There are some products that are designed to camoflage and help your skin while you sleep.

BareMinerals Pure Transformation Night Treatment Powder. Breathable, dewy and with zinc to treat skin issues overnight. It actually looks pretty on.

Dr Jaart+ BB Night Beauty Balm. Not currently available in the UK, but worth stocking up if you go to America, it hydrates and brightens with some sheer coverage too.
