Wherever there was a lip at NYFW there also wasn't one. You might have heard this story somewhere before, and yes, that is because it emerged last season as an indicator of the individualism movement taking over your trend reports. As in, we're getting options rather than 'this is the trend and you'll love it'. More and more it's 'there is a loose trend and it's for people who want to make their own minds up.' The reason I particularly love the lip debate is that we all have a bold and a nude side in life, so embracing both options work for me. Secondly, the power of putting a few rogue bolds in the model line up among a sea of nudes makes it pop all the more. And that is the point of a bold lip surely?
Last season Pat McGrath kicked it off with 5 girls at the Victoria Beckham SS16 show in a tomato red among all the other nudes. This time she did it again with just two of the girls in a berry stain, the rest in nudes, and then other designers started following suit.
