The Saturday of London Fashion Week AW16 saw everything from wet-look smoky eyes at to diffused statement lips at , but there was one make-up style in particular that stood out and cemented itself as an emerging beauty trend – embellishment. And lots of it.

It appeared in all shapes and sizes, each offering a fresh take on the glitzy and gilded.

First up, Markus Lupfer where make-up artist Lucy Burt patted Maybelline Babylips onto the eyelids before pressing on flecks of chunky gold and bronze glitter.

‘These girls are all part of the same gang but they have their own individual quirks, so we’re creating different shapes and styles with the glitter,’ Lucy explained.

Over on nails, manicurist Michelle Humphrey took her cue from the make-up and went for full-on glitter bomb falsies.

Backstage at Julien Macdonald, make-up legend Val Garland had everyone oo-ing, ahh-ing and fervently Instagramming with her oversized cat eye complete with golden or silver pigment popped into the inner corners.

‘It’s so important to keep the rest of the skin and the lips pared-back, fresh and clean to maintain the cool factor,’ Val advised.

She used L’Oreal Paris Infallible Foundation to create a ‘luminous’ base.

Finally, Holly Fulton, where make-up mastermind Sam Bryant pulled out all the stops to create a ‘techy, modern and conceptual make-up look’ to compliment the somewhat ‘folky’ collection.

Sam wet the eyelids with MAC Mixing Medium (a backstage favourite) before placing over a sheet of silver leaf and using a buffing brush to break it up in random places for a ‘broken glass effect’.
