Way back in 2014 Anthony Vacarello sent models down the runway working inky black painted ear lobes, and lo our fascination with ear make-up was born.

Cue everyone from Pat McGrath at Louis Vuitton to Opening Ceremony adorning their models' lobes with everything from silver slicks to full on ear glitter.

As with all weirdly intriguing beauty trends, where the runway goes, Instagram will follow. And so ear make-up started popping up on make-up artist accounts everywhere.

But the question remained - is ear make-up actually a thing?

Like, would anyone wear it IRL?

Enter Solange and an avant garde-themed Met Gala and you've got your answer.

Proving once again that she's anything but basic, the painfully cool musician sashayed her way down the red carpet rocking a puffa jacket (with a train no less) and a sneakily adorned ear and jawline.

Embracing her signature no make-up make-up look and seriously fierce brushed up brows, Solange finished the bare-faced look with one single ear lobe painted white and a fine line painted along her jawline.

Leaving us asking the question - could monochrome jawline make-up be the new minimalist approach to contouring? Watch this space...

Either way, in a sea of nude lips and classic updos, we're totally feeling Solange's subtle nod to the evening's outlandish Commes Des Garcon theme.

Solange breaking beauty rules and being generally awesome? That doesn't sound like her at all...
