Rihanna has nailed it again. Her latest launch from Fenty Beauty is a liquid lipstick in the ultimate universal red that suits everyone (here's pictorial evidence to prove it). Perfect for party season, the Sunna Lip Paint in Uncensored, £19, can be dressed up or down depending on your style, mood or ability to be bothered.

Here we demonstrate three ways to pair it with different eye make-up looks – all wearable without being predictable. Take note.

1. Red lips + gold wings

As you probably know, gold eyeliner is trending, and when worn with minimal mascara and invisible contouring, it can totally work with a bold red lip.

To create this graphic gold wing, coat a wet angled eye shadow brush in the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife. Following on from your lower lash line trace a line up towards your brow bone, and then bring it across the eyelid to the inner part of the crease.

2. Red lips + brown smoky eyes

Pairing a traditional smoky eye with hot red lips can feel overdone. A soft brown smoky eye, however, looks more current.

For the easiest way to do it, simply buff a creamy pigment stick such as the Fenty Beauty Match Stix in Espresso all over the eyelids and beneath the lower lash lines. For added drama apply a brown liner such as the Charlotte Tilbury Rock 'n' Kohl Eyeliner in Barbarella Brown into your lower waterline.

3. Red lips + tightliner

While red lips and feline flicks are a beauty classic, if you want to make the look more modern downplay your eye make-up and simply tightline your eyes – an age-old make-up artist technique that gives the effect of definition without obvious liner.

To achieve this, either use a waterproof mascara (such as the L'Oreal Paris False Lash Waterproof Mascara) and wiggle the brush into the base of the lashes so it coats your lash line, or use a flat brush to gently push some waterproof gel eyeliner (try the E.l.f. Cream Eyeliner) underneath the upper lashes and along the lash line.
