You've got your May cover in reaching distance, right? If you've left it at home/work/friend's house (lucky them) then you'll still have seen our May cover star is superstar songstress, Rita Ora.

Never one to play by the rules (as proven by our gallery of Rita's beauty evolution) she always adds that little something extra to every look, be it yellow dip dye with natural makeup or, in this case, her signature red lipstick with a slicked back sports luxe 'do.

So how does this look translate to everyday wear? Let's find out.

I took time defining my Cupid's bow with the tip of a lip brush and Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in 01, and kept the rest of my make-up fairly paired back and natural. 'This is easy', I think to myself. See red lips are already part of my makeup repertoire but sporty (aka semi wet-look) hair? Undiscovered territory.

To achieve the texture I slicked back my roots with Percy & Reed Wonder Balm, £18, and crunched my ends with Redken Control Addict Hairspray, £12.80.

I try to walk back to my desk with a nonchalant manner, like I wasn't trying a red-carpet look on a Monday afternoon in the office. I fooled no one.

'Maybe if you were all dressed up or on the beach it would work', suggested one colleague as the others tried not to look confused at my greasy roots.

Verdict: definitely not for the office but haven't ruled it out completely. Will report back.
