Cadjmere 18, £63.50 by Parfumerie Generale at Les Senteurs
Founded by Creative Perfumer Pierre Guillaume in 2002, French brand Parfumerie Generale (the name echoes his initials) fuses the world of perfumery with science. Pierre began his career in Fine Chemistry working as a scientist at the Laboratoire de Formulation Industrialle founded by his father, where he worked on speciality products for the beauty industry. His fascination for botanicals and fragrance and his background in science led him to creating the brand which takes perfumery to another level, experimenting with light, temperature and ultrasound to mention just a few and their effects on fragrance.
Istr, £98 by Found at Zuneta Found is a unisex skincare brand that specialises in natural anti-ageing products. Founder, Eric Cosson, is a self-confessed science addict who takes inspiration for his hi-tech skincare from travelling the world. Found currently has two products in the line - Istr and Sarpa. Istr is a daily moisturiser that uses oyster extract, known as a miracle food, to nourish, restructure and combat ageing. Sarpa recreates the structure of snake venom to work as a powerful plumping night serum for fresher, firmer skin. Eric Cosson plans to develop his line further so watch this space for more innovative and unusual skincare ingredients.
Glow Booster Serum, £340 by Noesa at Zuneta Noesa is an innovative new skincare brand which aims to encourage cell renewal in order to repair the structure of the skin. Founded by Gerd Gerken, Noesa uses their own ingredient 'Danadem' to feed and regenerate skin from the inside out. Noesa claims that their products penetrate right through to the bottom layer of skin to work its restorative magic, plus it's made of completely natural substances and has no synthetic preservatives or additives. The Glow Booster Serum has a natural plumping effect and leaves skin looking luminous. Scientific innovation like this doesn’t come cheap but Noesa is definitely a brand to watch (and to put on your Christmas list this year).
Jasmine et Cigarette, £38 by Etat Libre d'Orange. Available at Les Senteurs.
Etat Libre d’Orange, meaning the free state of orange, is an unconventional perfumery that specialises in niche, avant-garde fragrances. South African born founder, Etienne de Swardt, spent time training at the house of Givenchy before creating his collection of scents inspired by the body's senses. The philosophy behind this Paris-based brand is to push boundaries and encourage freedom of speech, but despite the unusual ideology his fragrances are incredibly wearable. We love Jasmine et Cigarette which combines tobacco, amber, apricot and jasmin to create a deep musky scent.
Pulp, £85 by Byredo. For stockists call 0207 730 2322.
Byredo, recently launched in the UK, is a Stockholm based brand founded by Ben Gorham. Born in Sweden to Indian and Canadian parents, he has travelled the world since being raised in New York and Canada. His varied career has taken him from studying interior architecture in Toronto, becoming a graduate of Stockholm Art School, oh and also turning his hand to professional Basketball. Ben came to perfumery in 2006 and is one of the youngest noses in the industry at a mere 30 years of age.
‘I have always been fascinated by the world of fragrance and its effect on my memories and impressions’. So it made sense that the brand should be named Byredo meaning ‘reminiscent of’. We love Pulp, it’s heady fragrance makes it one of the best choices for the new season.
Morphoslim, £29.50 by Lierac. Available at HQHair.
Lierac has been a popular brand in Europe since it was founded in 1975 by Dr Cariel (Lierac is a anagram of his name) due to the products being, not just affordable, but effective too. The brand arrived here recently with the launch of Morphoslim, a cellulite busting product, along with their more staple products for the face and eye area. Boasting the most advanced botanical research laboratories in the world, the team work to create skincare solutions from the finest ingredients – this is definitely a beauty brand to watch.
Dynamic Defence SPF 15, £42 by Skinesis at Space.NK
Celebrity facialist Sarah Chapman has 18 years experience in the industry with a knowledge that spans beauty from cosmetic science to specialised and hi-tech massage. Sarah began researching her range eight years ago, travelling to the USA in search of the finest ingredients and newest technology. Her small but perfectly formed range of seven products Skinesis (along with specialist massage regimes to accompany each) includes the Overnight Facial £42, Ultimate Cleanse £34, and Eye Recovery £38 to name a few. It launches in Space.NK in September and the ELLE team can’t wait.
Pulse Point Perfume, £15 by Sula at Space.NK
This cute make-up brand was founded little over a year ago by Susanne Lang in Canada, with Sula being a play on the founder’s name. The essence of the line is its pretty and flirtatious nature, which is played out in the bright colours of the cosmetics, playful scents and floral packaging. In particular we love the roll-on, pulse point fragrances which are perfect for slipping in your handbag. Sula launches at Space.NK in November and is one to watch out for.
Steam Cream, £9.95 available exclusively at Liberty of London on 020 7734 1234
When brought into contact with the skin this cream immediately breaks down into steam. The idea is that the ingredients in conventional lotions are held so tightly together that, while they may boast amazing ingredients, they can’t target the skin properly. Steam Cream claims that its unique formula helps to break down the ingredients to their purest form so they are able to penetrate the skin more effectively. Ingredients such as orange flower, cocoa butter and almond oil moisturise and soothe the skin, while the fragrances created from essential oils are not just used to scent but also for their toning, soothing and healing properties.
