The blindingly bright colours and bold prints that were the backdrop to our summer are crossing over in to AW11. Just look at Mary Katrantzou (pictured). Whilst this bold little number might be a tad OTT for everyday-wear, it speaks volumes about our reluctance to give up all that is bright and bold. Wear Calvin Klein Forbidden Euphoria, £65 100ml EDP (available nationwide), the top notes of sparkling mandarin and peach blossom, together with pink peony is the fragrance equivalent of last season’s Jil Sander neon pink maxi-skirt and this season’s orange Burberry pea coat.

It just wouldn’t be AW without some uber-luxurious knits (see Hermes, pictured). It’s the time when we want comfort and warmth the most. The perfect winter warmer.

Sleek, sporty lines resurfaced this season (just look at Celine’s equestrian styling in contrasting shades, pictured). It’s only fitting that your fragrance follows suit. It needs to be chic in its simplicity. Try Emporio Armani Diamonds Black Carat, £49 for 50ml EDP (available nationwide), with Bulgarian rose, freesia, vanilla bourbon and vanilla bean.

If you’re feeling prudish look away now. Vuitton’s black leather strappy knee-high boots and Giles’ leather waspie mark the return of the dominatrix. Of course, she wears Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Collector’s Edition, £68 for 100ml EDT (department stores nationwide) – the vanilla, woody notes, rose, neroli, jasmine and a touch of ginger compliments her strong personality.
