Best SS14 Beauty: Paris Fashion Week
For Spring/Summer 2014 the French capital lived up to its signature style and brought with it a flurry of raw, natural make-up looks and freshly washed, relaxed hair - which we still adore.
Aside from the minimalist majority, a welcome wave of surprises like Chanel’s graphic rainbow eye, Haider Ackermann’s triple-up ‘do and Dior’s statement gold brows made their mark.

Dior
Christian Dior
Make-up Artist: Pat Mcgrath for Dior
Look: Embellished Brows
Inspiration: The location and the collection.
Key Product: Liquid Gold Pigment and Micro Glitter
Tip: Work with your natural brow shape and apply a facial friendly glue, gold pigment, and gold glitter in many layers to create a decorative texture. This look is all about building layer upon layer and to get it absolutely right simply paint on and wipe away. Et Voila!
Hair Stylist: Eugene Souleiman for Wella
Look: Golden Halo
Inspiration: Elie Saab designed these gold head bands to go with the delicate collection.
Key Product: Wella SP Luxe Oil, £18.50, on the roots for dual-texture.
Tip: Split your hair into three symmetrical pieces at the front, keep the two by your ear forward and slick back the middle. Put on your headband and then fold the two ear pieces over the top. The thinner the headband, the sleeker it will look.
Make-up Artist: Stephane Marais for Mac
Look: Punky Eyes
Inspiration: A girl who is carefree and who doesn’t follow the trends - this is her everyday signature look that she owns.
Key Product: A mix of MAC 3D silver glitter and black craft glitter.
Tip: Layer Duo Adhesive glue over black winged liner and quickly dab over the glitter before it dries.
Make-up Artist: Peter Philips
Look: Bright & Bold
Inspiration: 60s and 70s mixed with a futuristic vibe
Key Products: Chanel Hydra Beauty Cream, £50 and Chanel Small Eyeshadow Brush No15, £24, used to apply flat tints of rainbow hues
Tip: Apply black gel eyeliner in a thick line around each eye, without bringing it into the inner corner. Then follow the direction along your lower lash line and add a feline flick at the edges of your eyes. For extra intensity add a black kohl liner to your eyes waterline, and then simply decorate your lids with blocks and stripes of colours.
Make-up Artist: Tom Pecheux for MAC
Look: Parisian Cool
Inspiration: Raw, natural beauty to complement the collection.
Key Product: MAC Prep & Prime Moisture Infusion, £29, mixed with Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15, £22.50.
Tip: Brush up your brows using a clear brow gel and if you find the no-mascara look intimidating add a brown or plum version.
Make-up Artist: Val Garland for MAC
Hair Stylist: Sam McKnight
Look: Feral Creatures
Inspiration: For Val it was a girl waiting for the bus home - she misses it and is splashed in mud. For Sam it was Roman and Greek statues. Obscurely brilliant.
Key Product: Brown acrylic paints and GHD Hairspray, £9.95.
Tip: Use a fanned brush to flick the paints on (and wear a plastic poncho – things will get messy).
Make-up Artist: Aaron de May for MAC
Hair Stylist: Anthony Turner for L’Oreal Professionnel
Look: White Lines and School Boy Hair
Inspiration: A gang of punk LA girls but in a super-modernistic way.
Key Product: MAC ProLongwear Paint Pot in Angel to Shop, £15, and L’Oreal Professionnel Techi-Art Pli, £13.
Tip: Use a fine-tipped brush to apply the white liner as close to your lash line as possible.
Maiyet
Make-up Artist: Tom Pecheux for MAC
Look: Duo-gold Eyes
Inspiration: The metallic fabrics in the collection.
Key Product: A wash of MAC Eyeshadow in Golden Goddess and Platinum Love, £12.50, over the entire lid and then a dab of liquid gold pigment on the inner and outer corners.
Tip: Use your thumb to apply the liquid gold on the inner and outer corners – it doesn’t have to be too neat.
Make-up Artist: Val Garland for MAC
Look: All-round Liner
Inspiration: This 90’s girl has been to one party, danced her socks off and is now on her way to the after-party.
Key Product: MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack, £15, on the eyes and for dewy skin - MAC Mineralize Moisture Foundation, £27.
Tip: Go for a velvet-textured lip to balance the look.
Hair Stylist: Eugene Souleiman for Wella
Look: Low-Slung Pony
Inspiration: A cool, sexy Parisian girl (who doesn’t know it).
Key Product: Wella Ocean Spritz, £8.90, for lived-in, two-day-old texture.
Tip: Twist your hair and blow dry from underneath – heat rises, so doing this will cut your drying time in half.
Hair Stylist: Eugene Souleiman for Wella
Look: Hidden Twists
Inspiration: The use of light and music in the conceptual show.
Key Product: Wella Ocean Spritz, £8.90, on the ends.
Tip: This look should be sleek so straighten your hair before styling.
Make-up Artist: Diane Kendal for MAC
Hair Stylist: James Pecis
Look: Gorgeously Understated
Inspiration: The classic Chloe woman – intelligent, feminine and a little bohemian around the edges.
Key Product: MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Duck, £14 to line the eyes. Bed Head Queen For A Day, £11.95, in roots-to-ends for body.
Tip: Gently smudge the eyeliner around the edges with a cotton bud soaked in moisturiser for a more lived-in look. Use clip in hair extensions for that Chloe-fullness.
