Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months, it's been pretty impossible to miss the hotly-anticipated launch of Huda Beauty's #FauxFilter Foundation.

Like an Instagram filter IRL, the brainchild of Dubai-based blogger, entrepreneur, Instagram sensation and make-up maestro Huda Kattan promises an 'airbrushed finish for a second skin look,' and has sent beauty journos, bloggers and make-up-obsessives alike into meltdown.

So in a bid to step up our selfie game, we put it to the test.

Is It Worth The Hype?

One word: Yes - and the clue's in the name as to why.

At first, the consistency is akin to Giorgio Armani's legendary Luminous Silk Foundation i.e. you can tell it's going to be substantial but not mask-like.

It's one of the most highly pigmented foundations we've tried, but on application, it felt like butter and blended like a dream. Just like Mayfair and X-Pro II, it blurred our enlarged pores, blemishes and any redness into oblivion and lent our complexion a supermodel-esque luminosity - without us even having to try.

Named after desserts, (so extra, but we love) the 30-strong collection also caters to a seriously diverse range of skin tones including Fair, Light, Medium, Tan and Rich, with each of those categories boasting six different shades.

You Should Buy #FauxFilter Foundation If...

You like full coverage make-up, because boy, does it deliver.

We didn't actually need to go over any areas with concealer because it acts like a foundation and a pigmentation/dark spot/under-eye circle corrector in one. A single pump (trust) is ample to cover your whole face.

Even with all of that pigmentation and staying power, it doesn't settle into fine lines like other full-coverage foundations, which tend to go cakey, powdery or chalky after a few hours of wear.

Instead, it almost floats over blemishes and creases. The best part? It feels super-comfortable and will not budge until you see fit to take it off at the end of the day. In other words, it's the only foundation you should reach for over party season.

Is #FauxFilter Worth Your Hard-Earned Cash?

If you find it difficult to hunt down the perfect shade of foundation then #FauxFilter has got you sorted with a huge focus on your skin's undertone to make colour matching ten times easier and more accurate.

According to Huda, #FauxFilter dries to a 'radiant powder finish,' which sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but it actually delivers. It feels perfectly matte but also looks dewy and glowy in all the right places, leaving skin feeling comfortably hydrated and making highlighter an option, not a necessity.

We also love how it boasts a subtle floral scent. If you're a foundation fanatic like us, you'll know that some of them smell a bit like, well, paint - and that makes #FauxFilter so much more appealing when you're wearing it all day.

What's The Best Way To Apply #FauxFilter Foundation?

If you have dry skin in places, invest in the Huda Beauty Complexion Perfection Pre-Makeup Base, £27. A duo of rosehip oil and dimethicone will instantly quench any parched patches so the foundation virtually glides on.

Those with oily skin might want to choose something a little more mattifying. We love the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat +, £16.

Rather than filling the brush or drenching your make-up sponge like the Insta-elite, pump the product on to the back of your hand and apply where needed. A little really does go a long way.

If you're prone to oil slicks come 1pm, take a damp make-up sponge and daub a little translucent powder over your t-zone and chin to lock the foundation in place. Dusting it on with a brush can sometimes move the foundation around and leave your complexion looking patchy - not cool.

How Much Is #FauxFilter Foundation And Where Can I Buy It?

Despite the huge following, #FauxFilter is only £32 for 35ml, placing it into the same price bracket as fail-safe foundation brands like Charlotte Tilbury, NARS and Estée Lauder.

You can join the #FauxFilter waiting list online at Cult Beauty right now or shop range in store and online at either Harrods or Selfridges.

Flawless skin all round.
