It's official, note nails are the coolest manicure trend to come out of the SS18 shows so far.

Because in a world where we want everything we wear to say something about ourselves, from our Lady Danger lipstick to our Dior 'We Should All Be Feminists' printed t-shirt (ok, we don't technically own the latter, but our Pinterest wardrobe does), it was only time before we let our nails, quite literally, do the talking.

We first spotted note nails backstage at Helmut Lang in New York, where every model was given these lengthy pink false nails complete with HELMUT tags.

Backstage at Preen in London, manicurist Adam Slee took things one step further and customised the nails of 11 of the 39 models with specific word combinations decided on by the designers; including 'Dark Child' to 'Mercy Me' and 'Life Force'.

'I'm applying the letters from the right hand little finger across so they read like a sentence,' Adam explained. 'For the base, I'm keeping it to a single coat of milky, sheer nude, waiting until it dries and going straight in with the stickers before sealing in with a clear glossy topcoat.'

Obviously the key here is the stickers. Good news: you don't have to hunt down a specialised nail shop to find them. Instead, click your way to Amazon and you can get some here, here and here in 6mm or 8mm (any bigger will be too large for the nail).

The only problem? You're limited to words with less than five letters. We suggest starting with Love ELLE, but then again we're biased.
