You'd probably best know Marion Cotillard for her academy-award winning performance as French singer Édith Piaf in La vie en rose, her work as a spokesperson for Greenpeace or her über-cool romance with actor/director, Guillaume Canet.

However, the 41-year-old actress has stunned her fans by debuting a new look - some visibly inflated lips.

In several pictures posted to Instagram, the pregnant star showed off her long black locks with a seriously plumped pout.

In the images, Cotillard is seen wearing a black V-neck blouse and a low-cut red plaid shirt with a matching red bra, posing in stereotypical sultry poses for the camera. It seems to be a radically different look for the actress, who is currently the face for Dior and recently told ELLE UK she wasn't interested in starring in films 'all about the boys'.

As a result, some media outlets (we won't name names) plus her fan base seems to have gone into total meltdown.

Several of her fans have commented on her pictures with remarks such as '100% vulgar. What did you do?', 'duck face', and 'Angelina Jolie' – an ironic comment given the fact the star and her partner were forced to deny rumours the actress had enjoyed an affair with her Allied co-star, Brad Pitt, following the announcement of his split from wife, Jolie.

Firstly, it's not in particularly good taste for anyone to be shaming a woman on account of her appearance. She's allowed to do what she wants to do - have we not learnt anything from Emma Watson this week?

But also, come on people, they aren't permanent.

The pictures that have got everyone in a tizzy were taken from the set of her latest film – a French comedy called Rock'N Roll directed and featuring her real-life partner, in which Marion plays the girlfriend of an ageing rock star.

In December 2015, Marion told the American press that she hated playing characters that looked so much like her, so it seems she's picked a role that allows her to be a little more adventurous with the way that she's portrayed on camera.

And good luck to her - she's certainly got everybody else's lips flapping!
