Margaret Thatcher presented a steely image to the world. Her hair was one of the ways she conveyed that this lady was not for turning.
As Britains first female Prime Minister, hers was an unprecedented path and call it trivial, but the Iron Ladys image was deeply considered. She was well aware that every nuance would be put under the microscope. In 1978, ahead of a trip to Iran, she wrote to the British Ambassador requesting a good local hairdresser who should bring Carmen rollers.
Style-wise, she showed unwavering dedication to a few key staples the power suit, the boxy bag and the pussy bow blouse and she showed similar support for her heavily Elnett-ed do. It was tweaked over the years - the colour from blonde to brunette to platinum, the length altered, but the set never wavered.
