Now that he's got his feet firmly under the Balenciaga fashion desk, Alexander Wang is turning his attention to fragrance – announcing his first for the house, B. Balenciaga, today.

Working with International Flavours & Fragrances’ Domitille Bertier the New Yorker dug deep to find inspiration, using everything from walks in Paris to bouquets from his fashion shows.

'Each element was a process that took a lot of evaluation as to what’s been done before and what hasn’t been done before,' he revealed to WWD.

'It took a lot of soul-searching, but I really wanted to do something quite pure, as I see it as a step forward for the house.

'It was exciting working on the scent and going to the essence of the brand, to its DNA— I love to explore and dig up why something has to work the way it does.'

Wang explicitly sought out ways to make the fragrance iconic to the brand – for example, the crackled bottle pays homage to the marble flooring in Balenciaga’s original studio in Paris and the marble theme that ran through the Wang's first collection for the brand.

So, how does it smell? It has top notes of lily of the valley, violet green leaves accord and green edamame accord; a heart of iris root and cedarwood, and a base of ambrette seeds and cashmeran wood.

But if that doesn't conjour up an idea for you, it's not long to wait until its launch in October to find out.
