Industry magazine Hairdressers Journal and Schwarzkopf Professional put on a night to remember. Hosted by the hilarious Jonathan Ross and with guest stars Marcus from The X Factor (a trained hairdresser) who presented Newcomer of the Year Jasmine Redstone of RUSH Hair Croydon with her gong; while singer Aloe Blacc provided entertainment it made for a fun Monday night out.
Ross awarded Afro, Avante Garde, Men’s Hairdressers, Newcomer, Artistic Team and Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the year. The last award of the night is the biggest – British Hairdresser of the Year. Each nominated stylist sends models out on the stage with hair from their entry and decked in designer garb that portrays the feel of each collection. The mini catwalk show included glittering hair, woven up-dos, futuristic crops and geometric patterned hair. Akin Konizi was crowned the winner, making it an impressive night for HOB salons where he heads up the team; the salon also took home statuettes for Artistic Team and Colour Technician – let’s hope they have enough shelf space.
The biggest faux pas of the night (there's always at least one at award ceremonies) was when Jonathan quipped that whoever styled Frankie Cocozza's hair is a disgrace to the industry. When Jamie Stevens, resident hairstylist on The X Factor and winner of the Men’s Hairdresser of the Year award, got on stage he said to Jonathan, 'I used you as inspiration for Frankie's hair'; great comeback Jamie.
