Here are the rules to follow…
1. Work a next season look
Whitney Port looked too cute in her double dolly bun. It was EBT’s favourite hairstyle of Coachella, but where did Whitney get the idea from? We’re guessing it was Topshop Unique’s Autumn Winter Dalmatian-inspired show (click here to see the look). The original hairstyle helps Whitney stand out from a sea of celebrities with beach waves.
2. Take a hat
The list of stars in hats was long, but worth a mention are Diane Kruger, Ashley Greene and Rihanna who all rocked out in masculine hats. Snap up a fedora or trilby if you’re heading to a festival this summer – they don’t just give your floral dress a cool edge, they hide greasy roots.
3. Sport a low-key bright lip
Unlike Dita and Kelly O who chose super-bold, perfectly applied lipstick, Kate Bosworth went for a peachy lipstick with sheen that was far better suited to festival living. It was bright enough to make a statement, but not too perfect that she would have had to check on it every five minutes. ELLE loves Lancome L’Absolu Nu lipstick, £19.50, if you want to get the same look.
4. Get your hair cut
If your hair is short already, make like Alexa Chung and have a cut before you head off. The TV Presenter’s hair, with its freshly blunt cut ends, looked super cool with a bit of texture. It would have been far more low-maintenance than longer lengths and it looked more modern too.
5. Don’t forget your liner
We wouldn’t normally advocate sleeping in your make-up, but if you’re living out of a tent at one of summer’s upcoming festivals it’s unlikely you’ll be cleansing, toning and moisturising. Luckily, a smudge of kohl liner will look just as good when you first apply, as it will next morning (or afternoon) when you wake up. Work it like Rihanna.
6. Accessorise your beachy waves
If you do go for the classic beach wave look, all you need to take is some salt spray (we love Bumble and bumble’s Surf Spray, £18) and some dry shampoo for your roots. Accessorise with a floral hair band like Katy Perry and Isabel Lucas, and make sure you have plenty of Kirby grips if you want to pin bits back like Alessandra Ambrosia.
