Designer has collaborated with TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe creating a limited edition wash bag to house your hair products.
We caught up with the designer to talk favourite celeb hairstyles, signature prints and, erm, Christmas
Why the collaboration with TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe?
We began working together for my London Fashion Week shows four seasons ago and since then, have formulated a unique relationship that means were able to constantly update the nonchalant take on luxury bohemianism that sums up the Matthew Williamson woman. Their heritage in dressing from the head down means theyve been able to complement each collection with the perfect hairstyle according to my creative vision for any particular season.
What inspired the print on the wash bag?
Fashion relies upon reinterpretation of the past. I went back through my design archives and chose a signature print then updated it with layers of computer-generated prints in a distorted zebra pattern layered over the top of a kaleidoscopic marbling effect. Like polka dots, an animal print never goes out of style. Pairing it with the rainbow colours felt both timeless and also captured the exoticism thats inherent to my designs.
How much does the hairstyle play a part in your catwalk shows?
Like the punctuation of any outfit, hair is an essential means of completing the overall look for each new collection. My instinct is always to lean towards styles that are clean, simple and not too contrived. At the moment, invisibly styled no hair hair feels modern, fresh and communicates the sense of a well-travelled sybarite who always want to look sexy but effortlessly so.
