Go eco for your holidays
Since new airline regulations now prevent us from taking toiletries over 100ml in our hand luggage, we’ve been on the quest to find the perfect mini sized travelling companians of all our favourite products.
We all love minis, but so much plastic packaging for a drop of product is not exactly the most eco friendly way to transport toiletries, especially when many popular holiday destinations do not recycle ( Greece, Thailand etc). So this summer at ELLE we're leading the charge for putting in some effort, buying super sized and decanting. On the high street Boots, Marks and Spencer and The Bodyshop all make great sets of empty, 100ml, bottles and we heart Bobbi Brown’s super chic set which even comes complete with a funnel for mess-free decanting.
If you really don't have the time, we've also found some great mini travel kits on the market that do their bit for the environment. The Natural Spa Company, Florane and Trilogy (who are a carbon neutral company) all use organic ingredients in their specially sized travel bottle sets, which are made from recycled and recyclable mini bottles. The bottles can also be refilled to use again and again.
Almost all of the Dr Hauschka products come in 100ml or under bottles which are recyclable, plus they have fair-trade initiative projects in Burkina Faso in West Africa, where they source Shea Butter and in Romania where they grow roses for their iconic Rose Day Cream – eco friendly and helping to make the world a better place.
And if you want to completely avoid mini bottles all together, head to Lush. They stock shower gels and shampoos which are solid, which means no airport liquid restrictions to worry about. These solids all fit on to the Lush Travel Roll, a wash bag specifically designed to house all the solids you’ll need for holiday.
