If your Speedy bag had a signature scent, what would it be? We’ll soon know the answer, as Louis Vuitton has retained the services of a master perfumer to navigate its way into the fragrance game.
Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, a third-generation perfumer from Grasse in the South of France, will begin working on Vuitton’s fragrance from January, reported WWD . Cavallier-Belletrud has worked on fragrances with Nina Ricci , Yves Saint Laurent , Christian Dior , Stella McCartney and Jean Paul Gaultier , so blockbuster scent status is all but assured.
Marc Jacobs has long expressed a wish to launch Louis Vuitton fragrances. His eponymous brand’s family of fragrances, including Daisy , Lola and Bang, earned him a place in The Fragrance Foundation’s Hall of Fame in 2009.
Apparently, Vuitton created a handful of commercial perfumes in the 1920s, but the brand has been reticent to enter into the crowded fragrance field in its modern incarnation.
What we really want to know is how the fashion house can concoct a potion that encapsulates the Miss Whiplash fetishism of its autumn winter ’11 show , and the spun-sugar sweetness and light of its spring summer ’12 collection . How do you imagine Vuitton’s signature scent?
