This season MAC has excelled itself, creating a Liberty of London collection that we will definitely be queing round the block for when it launches on April 1.
While the product shades and formulations are typically MAC, with great pigments and textures, it's the packaging design that we’re most excited about. The team at MAC was allowed to delve deep into the Liberty archives to find inspiration. The results? The new Limited Edition collection is a glossy white, a move away from Mac’s classic matte black packaging, and printed with a bright, bold floral motif. This new design is a take on William Morris's Strawberry Thief print from 1883.
MAC Senior Vice President and Creative Director James Gager explained: “I’ve been watching Liberty for quite some time and have seen the brand evolve over the years…They have grown into a very cool brand that has collaborated with designer labels like Comme de Garçons and personalities such as Kate Moss.”
He added: “Liberty doesn’t have their own makeup line, so I wanted to partner on a project that spoke to both the brand’s modernity and global authority. I thought it would be really interesting to see what MAC would look like dressed up in a Liberty print.”
The Give Me Liberty collection includes lipstick, lipglass, eyeshadow, powder blush, beauty powder and nail lacquer, all in varying shades. On top of that there is also a scarf and two make-up bags which are sure to cause frenzy-induced queues at the MAC counters.
The campaign image (pictured) was shot by fashion photographer Miles Aldridge, while the make-up was created by famous make-up artist and Kate Moss' mate, Charlotte Tilbury.
Ironically the collection won't be available in Liberty itself as MAC don't have a counter there (do you think MAC’s hinting at something?). However, you'll be able to bag yourself (if you get there early enough) the collection from all of MAC's stockists, including its online store. Prices start from £8 for the nail lacquer to £82 for the scarf.
