entered the world of fragrance back in 2007 with his debut scent Daisy and has since added to his successful perfume empire with his range of seasonal Splashes, Lola and his men’s scent Bang. But his new project is something different entirely, Jacobs has hooked up with French brand Sephora to bring Marc Jacobs make-up to life.
'I see make-up, fragrance — everything, really — as an opportunity’ said Jacobs. ‘The idea of choosing a colour for your lip, or an eyeliner — it’s just such a delight. The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy. We currently are working on defining what Marc Jacobs cosmetics will be, what they’ll say, what makes them distinctive. I think that will take some time, but the first meeting was good.'
Marc Jacobs sees fashion as more than just the clothes he designs, 'Anything to me that is part of the joy, the ritual, of getting dressed — things that women enjoy like bags, shoes, fragrance, clothes, makeup — that’s what fashion’s about for me,' Jacobs told WWD.com. 'I love the opportunity, wherever there is one, to adorn, to decorate, to scent, to dress. That’s what fashion’s all about. It’s not necessary, it’s something you want — it’s a fancy and a whim,' he added.
While a launch has not been set for Jacobs' cosmetics (which gives us plenty of time to campaign for Sephora to come back to the UK!), his newest scent Dot which has a bottle embellished with petals and adorned with polka dots containing a floral-fruity fragrance with sweet notes of coconut and soft vanilla, will be launching in July.
We're betting that his make-up will include bold shades that mirror his catwalk collections; and if his love of florals and polka dots are anything to go by we expect him to slip a few of those into the packaging design somewhere. We want to know, what would you like Marc Jacobs to do with his cosmetics line?
