has turned his hand to cosmetic design by collaborating with Benefit on a new make-up kit called ‘The Rich is Back’.
'I've been working on this Benefit collaboration for over a year. Its 70's inspired,’ he told ELLE beauty director Sophie Beresiner. A season that is his favourite to plunder for creative inspiration and also the decade in which Benefit Cosmetics was born.
‘When I think of Benefit I think of a young girl, about embodying a sense of youth and fun and energy' he added.
The kit consists of brand new shades all completely exclusive to the collaboration making it a must-have palette for die-hard Benefit Cosmetics fans. There are three neutral shimmer shadows with a teal shade (very 1970s), as well as a cherry lip gloss, blush and mascara. The packaging is bright kaleidoscope print with peacock feathers and pink flowers, ‘my idea for the packaging was to look to all my archive prints patch-worked together’.
Williamson was very involved in the shades that came housed in the kit. ‘Yeah my colour picks,’ he told Beresiner. ‘I gave benefit a Guy Bourdin image. A photo of a woman reclining in a jade green dress; we translated the tones in the image.'
When it comes to Williamson’s shows beauty plays an integral part. ‘For the shows, beauty wise, we think how do you make the girls look natural and beautiful? But I was talking to someone who mentioned the first show I ever did – it’s the only one I ever did that was conceptual, I’m really quite keen to look to that again for September. I remember it was scraped back hair and big fluorescent lips. Sam McKnight backcombed the hair and stuffed it into fishnet tights! Now I can't stop thinking of it’.
We can’t wait to see the look Williamson chooses for his Spring/Summer 2014 show. In the meantime The Rich is Back kit, £26.50, launches 15 June.
