Melanie Thierry started out as a child model, before moving into acting. Numerous bit-roles have followed but it’s this advertising campaign that is likely to send her star global. It’s certainly made her ELLEuk.com's one-to-watch this autumn.
Having used big name stars Kate Moss and Sophie Dahl in previous campaigns, YSL took a risk with Thierry in choosing an unknown. But if the pictures are anything to go by, it’s paid off.
So why did the brand choose Melanie? "She expresses such a multiplicity of facets, any woman can relate to her”, Renaud de Lesquen, president of YSL Beauté told wwd.com. The fragrance is a lighter version of the cult classic, but we can still expect an oriental aroma.
The launch party of Belle d'Opium in New York attracted the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal , Ashley Olsen and Alexandra Richards. Flying the flag for the UK was Alexa Chung ; she topped our best dressed list last week in the YSL ensemble she wore to the party.
Belle d'Opium is set to launch over here in September.
