Melanie Thierry started out as a child model, before moving into acting. Numerous bit-roles have followed but it’s this advertising campaign that is likely to send her star global. It’s certainly made her ELLEuk.com's one-to-watch this autumn.
Having used big name stars Kate Moss and Sophie Dahl in previous campaigns, YSL took a risk with Thierry in choosing an unknown. But if the pictures are anything to go by, it’s paid off.
So why did the brand choose Melanie? "She expresses such a multiplicity of facets, any woman can relate to her”, Renaud de Lesquen, president of YSL Beauté told wwd.com. The fragrance is a lighter version of the cult classic, but we can still expect an oriental aroma.
The launch party of Belle d'Opium in New York attracted the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ashley Olsen and Alexandra Richards. Flying the flag for the UK was Alexa Chung; she topped our best dressed list last week in the YSL ensemble she wore to the party.
Belle d'Opium is set to launch over here in September.
