Two things we noticed: 1) The absence of colour. 2014 was not the year of the lip - but those who did it, did it SO well. Emma Watson went deep red to offset her simple Vera Wang gown, and Margot Robbie stole the show with vampy darkest berry.

2) Side-partings and uniform waves were the stand out trend. We expected a lot of super-sleek to mirror the SS14 hair trends we saw back in September, but the Oscars Red Carpet is no place for experimenting, which is why there was an influx of similar hair styling, but it was oh so stylish regardless. Jessica Biel, Sandra Bullock and Kate Hudson led the way with immaculate waves. Cate Blanchett went slightly more retro with 1940's hints, but mostly the red carpet hairstyle of choice was beautiful in its simplicity.

The look of the season then was neutral (a lot of metallic nudes on the eyes, and peachy nude lips as demonstrated perfectly by Biel) and old Hollywood waves with a modern uniform twist.
