Gwyneth Paltrow wore her long blonde hair sleek and pulled back into what looked like a faux bob from the front, but from the back revealed a sleek ponytail secured at the nape (a big autumn/winter 12 hair trend). Sandra Bullock championed the ponytail with her hair pulled back into a high pony, with a flattering ever-so-slightly dishevelled texture through the front.
When it came to buns, Rooney Mara paired hers with super sleek texture and her signature razor-sharp fringe. Shailene Woodley chose to wear her hair in a pretty, traditional-looking ballet bun, while Jennifer Lopez rocked a woven bun on top of her head, concealing a doughnut to give structure and size. Emma Stone wore a Giambattista Valli gown with a huge bow at the neck, her sweeping side fringe and low bun looked beautiful but the hairstyle would have been chosen to take full advantage of the detail on her gown.
The Artist star Berenice Bejo braided her red hair along the hair line with the plait gathered into a low slung knot at the nape of her neck - this was, by far, our favourite hair look of the night.
The best down-dos were vintage – an homage to old Hollywood style – Penelope Cruz appeared to be channelling Grace Kelly with her curled and set hair, while Natalie Portman chose retro waves to compliment her Armani Privé dress.
The best modern down-dos? Rose Byrne with her sleek, stylish bob. John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh revealed ‘wanted it to be all about shine and a high-gloss finish’. Harry used John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Agent Flawless Finishing Crème to tame flyaways. Kritsen Wiig rocked loose, dishevelled curls, which added a frivolous element to her nude make-up and gown. Angelina Jolie, also flaunted an undone, down-do (her signature look), a simple blow-dry with movement.
