Gwyneth Paltrow, Kirsten Wiig and Jessica Chastain all chose a barely-there look with nude lips. Gwyneth and Kirtsen wore delicately golden eyes, and a touch of liquid liner to give definition, while Jessica ramped up the liquid liner for a punchier look. Gwyneth focused on skin finishing, calling on the experts at St Tropez to ensure her skin looked perfectly polished. ‘The trend for tans right now is a natural layered look, finished with St Tropez Illuminators in Gold or Rose Gold to elongate limbs and to give skin a lush sheen’ St Tropez tanner Lucy Halperin told us.
Jennifer Lopez, Penelope Cruz, Rose Byrne and Natalie Porman all chose a smoky eye for the biggest awards ceremony in the US calendar. Jennifer blended a silver shadow into her charcoal smoky eye, which stopped it from looking too heavy. Shailene Woodley complimented her pretty up-do with a super-subtle smoky brown eye. Rose Byrne chose a heavy smoky eye, while make-up artist Eileen Kastner-Delago ramped up Natalie Portman’s vintage look with a mix of both black and purple liner and two layers of different Dior mascaras - Dior Show followed by Dior Iconic, she then used a purple mascara on the lower lashes.
Red lips are always a popular choice on the red carpet and Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich and Rooney Mara all chose to flaunt the look. Both Milla and Rooney kept the look super modern with a matte finish, while Angelina added a slight sheen to her lips for an ultimately more sultry vibe.
ELLE’s favourite beauty look goes to Emma Stone, who was brave enough to wear a pink lip and match it to delicate pink eyeshadow. The look was really subtle, but also really beautiful and was a great lesson in how sometimes less really is more, especially when you’re wearing such a show-stealing gown as a red Giambattista Valli. Michelle Williams also wore a really pretty pink lips, slightly dewier and brighter than Emma’s lip, Michelle’s perfectly suited her bright blonde crop. Make-up artist Angela Levin created Michelle's Oscars look and revealed how she created that pink pout, 'I mixed two Chanel Rouge Coco Shades from Chanel's Spring collection: Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paradis, a pink coral with Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Destineé, a spring plum'.
