Who could forget 'moon face' from last couture season? (if you didn't see, see it here... ) Well, this season the overall beauty mood was definitely more grown-up. There were, of course, a couple of shows where the make-up artists and hairstylists were allowed to push the boundaries. At Alexis Mabille each models’ face was painted a completely different Crayola-inspired colour, from red and yellow to blue and green; beneath the face paint sat a classic red lip and black linered eye. More colour was seen at Maurizio Galante where models were given smoky two-tone eyes in green paired with turquoise or yellow. A fun and wearable summer look, if you can see past the foliage head dresses! At On Aura Tout Vu focused on lips, rather than eyes with a pop of citrus red lipstick.
Over to the sublime now. At Chanel the eyes were the focus, inky blue and gorgeous it's exactly how we all want our smoky eyes to look. The key products used were Illusion d’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Apparition, a grey-blue and Destination, a silver-blue, eyes were then given intensity thanks to a heavy dose of Le Crayon Khol Intense Eye Pencil in Marine followed by lashings of mascara. The hair was given a rock theme with wearable quiffs and out-there crimped 'fohawks' (faux mohawks) adorned with feather fascinators. All eyes, as always were on the nail polish - a pretty pearly, pale blue that has 'must buy' written all over it. Custom-blended and called 'Sky Line' - we can't wait to try it.
Other smoky eyes included Versace a bronzy, golden, deep dark brown eye that would be perfect for balmy, summer nights and a inky, stippled-effect eye at Stephane Roland -that was just so cool, team ELLE can't wait to try it. Another quiff hairstyle (similar to those at Chanel) made it an appealing style to try at home this spring. Dior models had super sexy cat’s eyes and grown-up wine red nails; the faux bobs were stunning too. Over at Valentino smudged liner at the outer corners gave a new look, while ponytails were loosely tied with ribbon - a pretty and easy-to-achieve summer hairstyle.
Elsewhere skin was king - with dewy, perfected faces at Giorgio Armani Prive , Julien Fournie , Bouchra Jarrar and Alexandre Vauthier . Highlighting was seen at a couple of shows with Iris Van Herpen models flaunting ethereal white shadow over the eyes and on the inner corners and a good dose of highlight on the cupid's bow. At Christophe Josse a pretty face was given an unusual focus with glitter and shine worked through the brows. Elie Saab carried on the ethereal theme with a pearlescent lip, but gave it a super pretty, girly feel with pretty pink cheeks and fluttering lashes.
Jean Paul Gaultier was inspired by the late Amy Winehouse sending models out onto the catwalk with beehive wigs and her signature exaggerated liner.
