Ramp up your regime with super nourishing body oils, they’ll protect and repair your skin keeping it soft under all those layers. Here's ELLE's pick of the best…
Price: £38
USP: With its lockable pump and plastic bottle it’s perfect for travel
Pros: This oil feels really thick - is a promising sign since my legs have been looking a little flaky. A little goes a long way and it sank in quickly so I could get dressed pronto. My legs felt softer immediately and had a nice dewy finish on the skin; however by that evening they looked even better, the oils had set to work throughout the day to leave my legs looking hydrated with not a scaly patch in sight.
Cons: A little bit pricey, but such good quality I’m tempted to re-purchase.
Price: £45
Stockist: Davina Peace
USP: Davina Peace refers to her range as “responsible luxury” - it’s one of the only product ranges that uses hard-working ingredients but still ticks the organic box.
Pros: This has an ingenious dose stopper that I wish was on all body oils: kiss the over-pour goodbye. The scent is subtle and the texture of the oil justifies its price. I also love that the brand values sustainability so highly.
Cons: This is strictly not for busy days – no hurriedly getting dressed after slathering this on as it takes a while to sink it. Also it has such a great fragrance, I’d like to smell it a little more and have the scent linger on my skin longer.
Price: £23
USP: Aimed at pregnant women, so completely free from nasties. Plus if it works on pregnant women’s skin it should work double wonders on those that aren’t.
Pros: An intensely nourishing blend of omegas 3, 6 and 9, argan, sweet almond and jojoba oils. Perfect as an overnight treatment to treat parched skin leaving it silky smooth to the touch by morning. The invigorating scent is a joy to wake up to.
Cons: This is super thick, so it takes a while to sink in - best reserved for really dry skin types or a weekly treat.
Price: £20
Stockist: Aveda
USP: This oil can be used to relieve dry flaky scalps, as well as skin
Pros: The oil has a lovely texture, just enough slip to be able to get a good massage action going and for it to absorb well, but not so greasy that it leaves an oily residue. The smell is great too – not too grassy or off-putting, just a subtle aromatherapy-type smell. Straight away I noticed how moisturised my skin felt and it was still soft later that day when I got undressed. I loved it, so much so that I have swapped my regular moisturiser for it.
Cons: The only downside is that the nozzle is a little too small. Of course with it being an oil you don’t want it rushing out but equally it takes a lot of vigorous shakes of the bottle to release even a drop, so getting enough to cover your whole body takes a while.
Price: £30
Stockist: ESPA
USP: Super calming, perfect for workaholics and insomniacs.
Pros: This oil sinks in so quickly that I can apply it straight on after getting out of the shower in the morning and dressed straight after. It leaves a subtle and relaxing scent on my skin thanks to its de-stressing blend of frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood and rose geranium.
Cons: This comes in a glass bottle which can go a little awry when hands are still slippery from the oil.
Price: £20
USP: This is three-in-one; a bath, body and massage oil.
Pros: There is so much choice with these oils. Not only do you need to choose between the mood (read: scent) of your cow: horny, lazy, moody or knackered, you also need to decide whether to bathe, moisturise or massage. Horny cow is spicy and warming - a welcome addition to my regime on a cold morning. The oil leaves the skin on my body, even my elbows, knees and ankles soft and supple.
Cons: There is so much choice with these oils. Not for the indecisive.
