Best for: Longer lasting lashes
Apart from some disastrous attempts with strip lashes (one ended up under my nose on New Year’s Eve, 2001) I tend to avoid falsies. I do, however, love how they look, so I decided to entrust my lacklustre lashes to a professional.
Genè, at Martyn Maxey on Grosvenor Street, works with Nova Lashes, which apparently have the strongest glue in the industry - so I shouldn’t suffer any stray-lash mishaps with these. My bottom lashes were taped down using collagen infused pads, so while it felt uncomfortable my eyes were getting a much needed boosting treat. Gen è gave me a consultation to decide what look I would like ( I chose long with a curl). She then applied single lashes onto each of my own lashes. After an hour or so of gluing and preening my eyes were finally set free.
Bambi-eyed is the best way to describe my new look, even my boyfriend noticed the difference, which is the ultimate compliment. I was given conditioning pads to remove eye make-up and to help keep my new lashes in tip-top order and I was advised to come back every 3-4 weeks for maintenance to keep them looking their best.
So far I have been naughty and tried to eek as much life out of the existing ones as possible. Four weeks later I am still getting compliments, but I will book in again soon; I’m addicted.
If this seems too high maintenance, Genè also offers flicks, where 6-8 lashes are applied to the outer corners of each eye, to give a fresh, wide-eyed look. Flicks cost £30 and only take a speedy 15 minutes.
