Best for: Pale skin tones
I have always been a fan of St Tropez’s classic pump action mousse, for a classic I’ve-been-on-holiday-for-a-week tan. This newer ‘everyday’ version is a lighter tone – it takes two or three applications to build up a medium shade, so I had more control over my tan and miraculously there was not a streak or stained hand in sight. It was also far less pungent than the original –bonus!

Best for: people who want fast results, but don’t want to go too dark
If you’re looking for a gradual tanner but don’t want to wait weeks for results then Xen Tan is the one for you – I noticed a change in colour from the first use. The product itself smells lovely, a little like a Pina Colada, but there’s no escaping the biscuit smell as it’s working its magic. However, as the colour is quick to appear I was able to use it for a few days to build up to the shade that I wanted and then leave it to one side.
