I have always been sceptical when it comes to face tanners – no one wants a streaky face. But this Lancaster tanner was light, the consistency of a toner, you just apply with a cotton wool pad, for a no mess application, while the tanner itself is so subtle you can use it daily without fear of streaking or looking muddy. The colour develops as a tan would, my freckles came out and my skin looked sunkissed.

Best for: a fast-fix face bronze
I like a really classic looking, chic tan – like I have have just been holidaying in the South of France and Xen Tan was great at helping me get the look. The light, olive pigment blended beautifully into my skin and because the colour was instant I there were no nasty surprises later in the day. I did have to highlight my cheekbones to prevent the tan from looking too flat. The vanilla fragrance was clean and refreshing.
