Best for: A flawless, healthy, glowPros: A little of this lightweight cream went a long way and I found it really easy to apply. With a light citrus scent it smelled better than other fake tans I’ve tried. I applied to my face and body, the next day at work I got plenty of compliments saying how healthy I looked.Cons: On first appearance the packaging and product look quite unremarkable considering the price tag, however the end result proves the money has gone into the tan itself not OTT design.Verdict: A no frills self-tanner that provided a healthy, realistic, flawless result.

Best for: A dark tanPros: The mousse is easy to apply and it’s coloured so you can get a steer on where you’re going. It has a great pineapple scent and a couple of people commented on how nice I smelt. The colour deepens within an hour to a pleasantly dark tone.Cons: Its colour is deeper than just taking the edge off pale as its name suggest. This colour results in three applications of other brands I’ve tried which could make the ghostly nervous.Verdict: I liked the even, punchy colour and the scent is a winner. Just have a hand-scrub ready to strip the tan from your hands.

Best for: Tanning experts, this is seriously long-lastingPros: This fake tan is being labelled as the 'The World's First 2-3 Week Tan' so this is definitely for the brave. Vita Liberata is paraben free and 80% organic. It doesn't smell, and leaves a lovely rich colour that is not remotely orange. The mousse glides on easily and the tan comes with detailed instructions on how to approach each area of the body.Cons: It’s super long-lasting, so if you get it wrong it's there for two weeks!Verdict: As long as you're very careful with it, this is a really lovely tan that will leave you with a great colour for the whole time you're on holiday.

Best for: A luxe tanning experiencePros: Containing coconut oil this fake tan lotion left my skin feeling super soft, as well as smelling great. It’s tinted so you know exactly where you’ve been and where you need to go. I usually end up with a streak or two, but this gave me the most even application I’ve ever had. I have naturally olive skin, so for me the colour was subtle.Cons: You have to visit the Rodial website for further instructions, tips and advice on how to use the product, not very helpful when your hands are covered in fake tan.Verdict: One of the best fake tans I’ve tried. It was easy to use, with an even coverage. This will be my go to summer product from now on.

Best for: A subtle tanPros: This mousse was really easy to apply and was a lot less messy than others I’ve tested. It’s one of the easiest fake tans I have ever applied with a guide colour so I knew where i had applied; the velvet-like mitt that’s included is a dream to use. It didn’t even smell of fake tan!Cons: At first the colour was seriously dark, however after showering the next day this faded to a seriously subtle sunkissed glow, so subtle in fact some may want to reapply a couple of days in a row.Verdict: The product application is fantastic; but this is definitely best reserved for those with pale skintones.
