Price: £31
Stockist: Lancome
Best for: die-hard make-up fans and beauty show-offs.
Lancome was the first UK brand to announce, back in June, that they were launching a vibrating mascara and it has finally arrived. The mascara's runny consistency is designed to work with the wand - which gently vibrates at the press of a button. This new technique takes a bit of practice getting the wand too close to the eye can make you blink. But once the technique is mastered the oscillating wand effortlessly grips each lash, pulling them up and out. Lashes are precisely separated and elongated, but not much thicker. This mascara already has a celebrity fan list that includes Lindsey Lohan and at it's launch had a waiting list which topped 20,000 women. The question still remains whether we really need a battery powered mascara, but of all of the new vibrating mascaras on the market this is the one we think is worth buying.

Stockist: Givenchy
Best For: Party Eyes.
Givenchy’s Phenom’eyes is a new generation mascara with a ‘never before seen’ rounded wand. This new shape means you can apply mascara horizontally as normal, or vertically for more root lift. The new technique is a bit fiddly at first, but once you’ve got the hang of it, the brush really works to separate, thicken and lengthen for phenomenal looking lashes. Plus, the formula has staying power - we wore it all day long and into the evening without reapplying - and there were no signs of flaking or smudging making this the perfect party mascara.

Stockist: Shu Uemura
Best for: Dramatic Lashes.
Shu Uemura's Ultimate Expression Mascara is a robust mascara with a wand that feels instantly different as it's so dense and chunky. This may take a bit of getting used to once mastered gives instant results in just a single coat.
Eyelashes look thicker and longer and there's no dryness or stickiness - lashes actually feel light and conditioned.
Even after a long day at work and a gym session the Ultimate Expression Mascara won’t let you down and remains smudge free. A must-buy for girls on the go who like to bat their (dramatic) lashes all day long.
Price: £27
Stockist: Chanel
Best for : Striking lashes.
Exceptionnel De Chanel Mascara has a wand that combines alternate brushes and combs – three of each in case you’re interested. The idea is to rotate the wand as you brush from root to tip, allowing the brushes to coat the lashes and the combs to separate. It’s really easy to use and thickens and lengthens the lashes in just one coat for a striking effect that looks like lash extensions.
This is a must-buy for girls who love instant big, bold lashes.
Price: £10.99
Stockist: Max Factor
Best for: Lightweight yet striking lashes.
Max Factor’s False Lash Effect mascara has a surprisingly lightweight formula which is more of a liquid than a paste making it really light and comfortable to wear. The super-sized brush gives lashes an enhanced effect, while the lightweight formula helps eliminate clogging.
For a real ‘false lash effect’ you need a few coats, while one or two simply enhances your natural lashes for daytime.
Price: £24
Best for: Precision Application.
Guerlain’s Two-Brush Mascara comes with two wands - obviously. It’s a double ended product with one full size brush and one miniature wand, perfectly sized to reach the smallest lashes in the outer and inner corners and on the lower lash line to add extra volume and emphasis exactly where you need it.
It’s extra smooth and gives look-at-me-lashes in one coat and lasts all day without a flake or smudge in sight. The only downside is the size, with it’s longer than average tube to accommodate both brushes it’s tricky to fit into some make-up bags.
Price: £11.00
Stockist: The Body Shop
Best for: A natural look.
The Body Shop’s Divide and Multiply mascara has an extra long wand for controlled application. This is an every day mascara that is natural and light on the lashes – definitely not for fans of the false lash effect.
Lashes are lengthened slightly and neatly separated. A back-to-basics product that will keep you looking well groomed around the clock.
Price: £10.99
Stockist: L'Oreal
Best for: Value for money.
L’Oreal’s Collagen Mascara has a reassuringly large brush - we’re not sure that size matters but the makers boast is twice the size of your average wand. It definitely looks impressive.
The mascara contains nourishing collagen and after two coats gives longer, thicker lashes, plus, the super-sized wand helps to add extra volume without any of the clogging you can often get with large brushes.
A good, sturdy, mascara which doesn’t have a jaw dropping price tag.
Price: £14
Stockist: Mac Cosmetics
Best for: A staple mascara.
Mac are known for their value-for-money, effective make up and their new X mascara doesn’t disappoint. There’s no clumping or clogging on application and one coat looks pretty natural - add two or three more and it gives a heavier evening look. It’s also smudge free, so a good all round gimmick free mascara which is great value for money.

Lots of hype surrounds the launch of Max Factor’s Lash Extension Mascara, so ELLEuk.com’s Josie Gealer put it to the test.
“I find 'lash lengthening' mascaras usually mean a thick, gloopy mess. But this one gives a surprisingly natural and soft effect. It glides on easily and you can build a few layers of mascara without it clogging. It didn’t give me heavy “party-eyes” but it did give me a great “lift and separate” look for groomed daytime make-up. Perfect for the office.

Best for: Party lashes
Revlon Double Twist Mascara comes with a dual purpose - a thickening brush and a separating comb in one. The aim? They work together to lengthen and separate the lashes.
This mascara had a brilliant thickening effect, making it a good choice for party lashes. However, I did find the actual brush quite tricky to use, because the bristles are different lengths. The mascara didn’t go on as smoothly as I would have liked, but I am willing to persevere because of the stand-out end result. A good choice for the mascara pro.
